Beautiful Belize

We completed our sojourn with four nights at Coco Plum Resort, a private island about 10 miles off the coast of Belize outside Dangriga.  To arrive, we took two different puddle jumpers from Flores, Guatemala to Belize City, and from Belize City to Dangriga.  We were the only passengers on both flights, and thus arrived to the island on two private flights -- we were stylin'!  From the "airport" in Dangriga (a small building the size of a house), we took a 15 minute boat ride out to the island.  We were greeted with cold towels, a delicious frozen drink, and welcomed to paradise.

The all-inclusive island is small, easily walkable end to end in about 10 minutes, and contains 18 private bungalows not 50 feet from the water.  The staff is incredibly friendly, always addressing us as "Ms Amber" and "Mr Chris", and seemingly knew our request and had it fulfilled before we even had a chance to ask for something.  To say the least, it exceeded our expectations at every turn.  (Not to mention we had no idea what we did to deserve this kind of treatment!)

We were nervous there would not be other young couples on the island, but those fears were put to rest early.  There was a rotating door of guests through the island, and everyone we met was friendly and fun to talk with.  There were folks from California to New York, plus an international couple from Ireland thrown in, and we exchanged info with one couple we hit it off with from Chicago.  Another couple on the island said it was their 5th time at Coco Plum, and every time they have come the other guests are always just as friendly and they've always been pleasantly surprised at the people they meet.

We were able to do a snorkeling trip as well -- we saw a sting ray, starfish, sea urchin, tons of fish, and a crab hiding in its shell.  It was Amber's first time snorkeling, but after an initial shock of sticking her face in the water and breathing -- a very unnatural thing to do obviously -- she was loving it.  (I got bored of my life jacket and tied it onto her life jacket -- she didn't love that so much; but everything else, great!)

The food was delicious, the sunrises and sunsets magnificent, and the people better.  In one word, the entire trip was rejuvenating.  Rejuvenating for the soul.  At the very end, we were ready to sleep in our own beds again -- we decided 11 days was about the perfect length of time.  And of course, now that we're back we are already planning our next adventure... Argentina, anyone?
